True to a good startup culture, we wanted to test the idea quickly. Larry came up with a probability quiz and the Opex
community responded very well. For this first puzzle, we had more than a third of the company participate and it
started a rich dialog on Slack. It did not take much for us to realize that we got this one right.
In the fifteen months since, Larry has penned more than 50 quizzes inspired by ideas from very different parts of Data
Science — probability, mathematics, operations research, computer science, and algorithms.
We want to share
this book
with you in order to provide a sneak peek into the kinds of problems that the data science
skillset lends itself to solving, as well as a view into our cultural DNA at Opex Analytics. I am told that the best
way to solve these puzzles is to have a beverage by your side! We will let you decide that for yourself. Good luck!
*For folks outside of Silicon Valley, cultural hacks are innovative ideas that align the organization around the core
values that best represent the company on the whole.
